What is Korean saju?

Saju (사주, Hanja 四柱) means “four pillars.” It is Korea’s everyday name for the classical East Asian birth-chart system also called the Four Pillars of Destiny (and BaZi / 八字 in Chinese contexts). Instead of planets on a zodiac wheel, saju builds four “pillars” from your birth year, month, day, and hour — each pillar a pairing of a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch.

Day Master & Five Elements

There are ten Day Masters — Yin/Yang versions of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Your Day Master is the “you” that other stems and branches interact with. Practitioners also tally the Five Elements (오행) across the chart to see what is abundant or missing — not as doom, but as a balance map.

Why Americans are discovering it

If you already know Sun / Moon / Rising, saju adds a different grammar: elemental Day Master energy plus pillar storytelling rooted in Korean and broader East Asian calendrical science (solar terms, sexagenary cycle). It is cultural literacy as much as “fortune telling” — and it pairs surprisingly well with the Western chart you already screenshot for friends.

Saju is for reflection and entertainment. It is not medical, legal, or financial advice.
